i'm mazzy, and i'm an illustrator, storyteller and proponent of the indie web.
i greatly enjoy creating art and sharing it with others — but modern social media platforms have made that frustrating, requiring artists to create with an algorithm rather than real people in mind. so i have opted out entirely. in april 2024 i quit instagram and tiktok, and now i'm learning to code my own digital space from scratch.
my passion is creating comics about living between different worlds and trying to be fully present in all of them. i'm inspired by the shojo manga i grew up on, most notably the works of kiyohiko azuma (yotsuba&!, azumanga daioh) and arina tanemura (kamikaze kaito jeanne, full moon wo sagashite). as i grew up, my brain began to store memories of my life in comic form — comics i’d then put to paper, fold into eighths, and pass around to my friends in the hallways at school to read. now as an adult, i’ve found the confidence to share them beyond my inner circle. you can read them on my "comics" page.
when i'm not raging against the machine or sleeping until 2pm, i like sending postcards, collecting stickers, independent cinema, communist-era architecture...and my namesake, dulces mexicanos de mazapán.
if you’d like to be net neighbors, collab on something, commission me, whatever — there’s a few ways to contact me. there’s a chatbox in the navigation bar, a guestbook here, and a contact form here if you’d like to send me an email. it’s really up to you. i’d love to hear from you in one form or another.
thanks for reading and take care!
